Austin Community College is launching a new opportunity for faculty to develop and share expertise in engaged learning practices.<\/p>\n

\u201cProject Active and Collaborative Communities\u201d (Project ACC) is intended to promote faculty-led, engaged learning activities such as group projects, class discussions, impromptu reflective writing, internships, project-based learning, and service learning.<\/p>\n

The project initially will be led by 15 faculty fellows who will spend four semesters (including summer) researching and applying teaching techniques specifically suited to their area of study. Faculty fellows also will host at a multi-day Project ACC Institute, serving as mentors to institute attendees as well as the next cadre of fellows. Materials created through the project will serve as resources for faculty orientation and ongoing faculty development.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Community College Survey of Student Engagement uses active and collaborative learning as one of the five key benchmarks in student success,” says ACC Provost Dr. Charles Cook. “Based on 2016 CCSSE results, ACC students report less experience with active and collaborative learning than other students at comparable and high-achieving colleges. A primary goal of Project ACC is to give faculty the opportunity to explore, design, test, and share engaged learning strategies that will inspire their teaching and promote better outcomes for their students.”<\/p>\n

Current faculty and adjunct faculty may apply to become a faculty fellow. Fellows will be selected to reflect ACC areas of study and will receive release time and\/or stipends. The deadline to apply is<\/strong> Monday, October 3<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
