Austin Community College (ACC) is collecting donations for its annual \u201cI Can Read!\u201d children\u2019s book drive benefiting the Travis County Sheriff\u2019s Office Brown Santa program.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a responsibility to help those who are less fortunate and close the inequality gap,\u201d says Alfonso Pena, ACC Student Government Association (SGA) president. \u201cWith each book we donate, we deliver fundamental reading skills. We inspire creativity and curiosity among our youth.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sponsored by SGA, the drive benefits children of low-income families. Since its launch in 2009, the annual event has collected more than 19,000 books for the Brown Santa program.<\/p>\n
Donations may be dropped off through Tuesday, December 6, at collection boxes located at ACC police offices on all campuses. New and gently used books are accepted. Monetary donations also are accepted by mail to the Highland Campus, SGA Office, Room 2350 (6101 Airport Blvd., Austin TX 78752) or online through Book Spring.
