Austin Community College\u2019s nursing students will have increased access to patient care simulation activities, thanks to a $200,000 grant awarded by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.<\/p>\n
The Nursing Innovation Grant will fund the purchase of sophisticated mannequins and medical equipment for advanced simulation and skills labs. It also will support intensive simulation-certification instruction for 16 nursing faculty who use the labs.<\/p>\n
\u201cA strong, knowledgeable healthcare workforce benefits the entire community,\u201d says Pat Recek, ACC dean of health sciences. \u201cIt is important to do everything we can to ensure a workforce with the education and credentials that clinics and hospitals require.\u201d<\/p>\n
ACC\u2019s Nursing Programs provide a path into nursing as either a registered nurse (RN) or licensed vocational nurse (LVN). The college is the No. 1 source of registered nurses in Central Texas. Pass rates for students taking national licensure exams average over 95 percent and consistently exceed state and national averages.<\/p>\n
