The college celebrated new construction projects at three campuses and introduced several processes to support student success and completion initiatives. Read about some of the year\u2019s notable events.<\/p>\n<h2>Celebrations<\/h2>\n<h3>\u201cVirtual\u201d groundbreaking unveils Bioscience Incubator<\/h3>\n<p>In February almost 200 science industry representatives and community leaders joined the college at a <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/acc-unveils-bioscience-incubator-plans-at-virtual-groundbreaking\/\">virtual groundbreaking<\/a> for a commercial wet lab facility coming to ACC Highland. Members of the Living History Detachment from the Texas Military Forces Museum fired a volley heralding the proclamation of Austin Community College Day in the City of Leander.<\/p>\n<h3>SAC commemorates 10<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary<\/h3>\n<p>ACC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/acc-south-austin-campus-celebrates-10-year-anniversary\/\">South Austin Campus celebrated its 10<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary<\/a> August 4. More than two dozen faculty and staff have worked at the campus since it opened.<\/p>\n<h3>Elgin Phase II construction gets underway<\/h3>\n<p>In October friends joined the college to break ground on <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/groundbreaking-celebrates-elgin-campus-expansion\/\">new facilities for the Elgin Campus<\/a>. Scheduled to open spring 2018, the expansion includes an 18,500-square-foot academic building for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.austincc.edu\/info\/vettech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Veterinary Technology<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/continue.austincc.edu\/agriculture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship programs<\/a> and an 11,000-square-foot outbuilding to support the campus working farm.<\/p>\n<h3>Round Rock Campus Early College High School opens<\/h3>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_41802\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-41802\" class=\"wp-image-41802 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2016\/12\/rrechs-groupb-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"rrechs-groupb\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2016\/12\/rrechs-groupb-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2016\/12\/rrechs-groupb-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2016\/12\/rrechs-groupb.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-41802\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Round Rock Early College High School at ACC<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>ACC and Round Rock Independent School District <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/acc-and-round-rock-isd-celebrate-early-college-high-school-partnership\/\">celebrated the first Early College High School housed on an ACC campus<\/a> October 27. More than 100 RRISD ninth-graders are enrolled in the inaugural semester of Round Rock Early College High School at ACC.<\/p>\n<h3>Alumni Network launches<\/h3>\n<p>President\/CEO Dr. Richard Rhodes joined friends and alumni at a <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/acc-celebrates-launch-of-alumni-network-feb-24\/\">February kickoff event for the Alumni Network<\/a>. The group organizes programs and events for members to network with fellow alumni, take advantage of learning opportunities, and support the life of the college.<\/p>\n<h2>New programs, processes<\/h2>\n<h3>New areas of study support guided pathways<\/h3>\n<p>ACC clustered programs into <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/areasofstudy\/\">10 areas of study<\/a> and implemented several new <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/acc-introduces-new-application-advising-processes-to-support-guided-pathways\/\">processes for student onboarding<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/new-webpage-helps-students-faculty-connect-with-area-of-study-advisors\/\">advising<\/a>. College teams have been mapping courses into program pathways. Meanwhile the college helped hundreds of students learn about the new program areas at <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/destination-acc-saturday-offers-1-on-1-enrollment-help\/\">Destination: ACC events<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Degree programs target high-growth jobs<\/h3>\n<p>ACC introduced degree and certificate programs in <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/acc-introduces-logistics-and-supply-chain-management-degree\/\">logistics and global supply chain management<\/a>, and advanced manufacturing with a specialization in <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/biomed\/\">medical device technology<\/a>. The number of logistics and supply chain management jobs in Central Texas is projected to grow 47 percent over the next six years, three times the national average.<\/p>\n<h3>Texas A&amp;M, Concordia partnerships provide new degree paths<\/h3>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_40419\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40419\" class=\"wp-image-40419 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2016\/09\/tamugroupphoto-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"tamugroupphoto\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2016\/09\/tamugroupphoto-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2016\/09\/tamugroupphoto-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2016\/09\/tamugroupphoto-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2016\/09\/tamugroupphoto.jpg 967w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-40419\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Texas A&amp;M-Chevron Engineering Academy announcement<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In September ACC announced a partnership with Texas A&amp;M University and Chevron Corp. to create the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/acc-texas-am-announce-new-engineering-academy\/\">Texas A&amp;M-Chevron Engineering Academy at ACC<\/a>. Students will take their first two years of coursework at ACC while pursuing one of 18 majors within Texas A&amp;M\u2019s engineering program. Students can begin applying for the fall 2017 academy class in January.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning fall 2017 students who earn a workforce degree will have the option to remain at ACC while they pursue a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science degree in business from Concordia University Texas. Students who have completed or almost completed their two-year A.A.S. degree can apply for automatic admission to the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/acc-concordia-offer-new-path-to-bachelors-degree-in-business\/\">3+1 B.A.A.S. program<\/a>. They spend a third year at ACC fulfilling Texas core curriculum requirements. During their fourth year they take Concordia courses taught by the university\u2019s instructors on ACC campuses.<\/p>\n<h3>Achieving the Dream recertifies ACC as Leader College<\/h3>\n<p>The Achieving the Dream organization <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/achieving-the-dream-recertifies-accs-leader-college-status\/\">recertified ACC\u2019s Leader College status<\/a>. Leader Colleges are considered exemplars in improving student outcomes. To earn Leader College status, institutions must show three years of steady improvement in at least two measures of student success.<\/p>\n<h3>Grant funds low-cost OER-based degrees<\/h3>\n<p>Achieving the Dream also awarded a $300,000 grant to a consortium of Texas colleges to develop <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/acc-receives-grant-to-develop-open-educational-resources\/\">degree programs that can be completed using open educational resources<\/a>. ACC and its grant partners will develop materials for general studies degrees. ACC plans to schedule its first grant-funded OER course in spring 2017.<\/p>\n<h2>Trustee changes<\/h2>\n<p>ACC\u2019s Board of Trustees has some new faces: <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/acc-trustees-reflect-on-two-decades-of-progress\/\">Jeffrey Richard and Dr. Victor Villarreal opted not to seek re-election, while Allen Kaplan stepped down after 22 years of service.<\/a> In a historic move, <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/acc-voters-elect-trustees-to-place-5-6-runoff-set-for-places-4-9\/\">ACC voters elected the first student to serve on the board<\/a>. Nicole Eversmann, a member of the college\u2019s Futures Institute, was sworn in December 5, along the Dr. Nora De Hoyos Comstock, who was elected to the Place 6 seat replacing Trustee Guadalupe Sosa. Sosa is running for the place 9 seat. Bragdon met Biden on her visit to the Highland Campus ACCelerator in March 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Dean of Library Services Dr. Julie Todaro began her term as <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/library-services-dean-julie-todaro-shares-expertise-as-ala-president\/\">president of the American Library Association<\/a>. She is the first community college librarian to serve in the role, which includes serving a year each as president-elect and past-president.<\/p>\n<h2>More recognition<\/h2>\n<h3>College makes Forbes best employer list<\/h3>\n<p>ACC was the only community college on <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/acc-named-to-forbes-top-employers-list\/\">Forbes\u2019 2016 America\u2019s Best Employers list<\/a>. The list ranks the country\u2019s top large and midsize employers based on input from more than 30,000 workers representing 1,900 businesses and institutions. ACC placed 70<sup>th<\/sup> among midsize companies and organizations.<\/p>\n<h3>Agency lists ACC as Fulbright top-producer<\/h3>\n<p>The U.S. State Department\u2019s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs listed ACC among <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronicle.com\/article\/Top-Producers-of-US\/235384?cid=rclink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">institutions sending the most Fulbright program participants<\/a> abroad in 2015-16.<\/p>\n<h2>Giving back to students and the community<\/h2>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_41800\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-41800\" class=\"wp-image-41800 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2016\/12\/operrbphoto2016-300x235.jpg\" alt=\"operrbphoto2016\" width=\"300\" height=\"235\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2016\/12\/operrbphoto2016-300x235.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2016\/12\/operrbphoto2016-150x118.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2016\/12\/operrbphoto2016.jpg 612w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-41800\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Operation Riverbats volunteers<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Almost 90 students, faculty, and staff volunteered at 30 organizations during the second annual Operation Riverbats Service week in October.<\/li>\n<li>The 11<sup>th<\/sup> annual <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/golf-scramble-sets-record-for-student-emergency-fund\/\">Golf Scramble raised more than $30,000<\/a> for the Student Emergency Fund. A record number of golfers and teams participated in the October event, which helps students facing an emergency continue at ACC.<\/li>\n<li>The ACC Foundation raised more than $3,000 \u2013 three times its goal &#8212; in just one day on Giving Tuesday, November 29.
