ACC Library Services hosts a series of readings and discussions as part of\u00a0Read Across Texas: The Veteran Experience, a statewide reading program sponsored by the Texas Center for the Book.<\/p>\n
\u201cRead Across Texas encourages communities to engage in tough but important conversations that surround the story of those who have bravely served our country,\u201d says Sheila Ross Henderson, ACC Round Rock Campus head librarian. \u201cWe examine what happens when these veterans come home.\u201d<\/p>\n
The\u00a0first\u00a0event will be held\u00a09 to 10 a.m.\u00a0Friday, February 10, at the Veterans Resource Center in ACC Highland (6001 Airport Blvd).\u00a0\u00a0ACC Veterans Affairs Manager Mark Harden will lead a reading and discussion of his book,\u00a0\u201cLosing Mogadishu.\u201d\u00a0Participants also will hear an excerpt from and discuss author\u00a0Ben Fountain’s novel,\u00a0\u201cBilly Lynn\u2019s Long Halftime Walk.\u201d<\/p>\n
Additional readings are scheduled for 9 to 10 a.m. February 17 and 24 at the Veterans Resource Center.<\/p>\n
The events are free and open to the public. Partners include ACC Veterans Affairs Office and VetSuccess, Round Rock Public Library, Texas Center for the Book, and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.<\/p>\n
