Vice President of Human Resources Gerry Tucker<\/strong> has been selected as one of five Women of Distinction by Girl Scouts of Central Texas. The honor recognizes outstanding women in the community who are role models for girls and adults. Previous honorees include former State Rep. Wilhelmina Delco, philanthropist Luci Baines Johnson, and ACC Trustee Gigi Edwards Bryant. Tucker and other 2017 recipients will be honored at an April luncheon.<\/p>\nInspiring students<\/h2>\n
Physiology Professor Margaret Flemming <\/strong>is spotlighted in a Pearson Education video series about inspiring educators. The video features one of Flemming\u2019s students describing the impact instructors have beyond the classroom. Watch the video<\/a>.<\/p>\n English Associate Professor W. Joe Hoppe<\/strong> was named \u201cBest Mopar Poet\u201d by Austin Chronicle critics in the newspaper\u2019s 2016 Best of Austin awards (Arts and Entertainment category) announced in November. The recognition is described as \u201cwhat you get when you mix a card-carrying Mopar Muscle Cars of Austin member with a poet.\u201c Hoppe, a Michener Center for Writers fellow, has taught at ACC since 1996.<\/p>\n Marketing Copywriter Jason Newman <\/strong>in December performed the lead role in the Austin Playhouse production of \u201cBaskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery.\u201d Newman and his four castmates juggled more than 40 roles.<\/p>\n Dr. Linnea Fletcher<\/strong>, chair of the Biotechnology Department, in January presented “Creating Life Long Educational Pathways in Biotechnology and Related Fields” at Texas State University as part its Biology Department Spring Seminar Series.<\/p>\n Dr. Virginia Fraire<\/strong>, vice president of student services, presented \u201cInitiative Impact Analysis to Prioritize Action and Resource Allocation\u201d at the annual EDUCAUSE conference in October.<\/p>\n Dr. Rodney Rohde<\/strong>, adjunct professor of biology, in November presented a TEDx talk at Texas State University about the importance of medical laboratory technicians and hygiene specialists in fighting antibiotic-resistant infections. The presentation subsequently was commended in a webpost by UMF Corp., a developer of infection prevention products.
