Because of a relatively short timeframe this year, the form was mailed to all employees including those who signed up to receive it electronically through ACC\u2019s Self-Service portal. For more information about the form, view Affordable Care Act Implications: Questions and Answers<\/a>.<\/p>\n What is double coverage?<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cDouble coverage\u201d is when someone is enrolled in a benefit as an employee and as a dependent. It can also mean a dependent is covered by more than one employee\u2019s health plan.<\/p>\n Does the Texas employees Group Benefits Program (GBP) allow participants to have double coverage?<\/strong><\/p>\n Generally, double coverage is not allowed. For example, John is a GBP participant and provides health insurance and dependent term life insurance coverage for his son Eric. Eric gets a job at a state agency and is automatically enrolled in health and basic term life insurance coverage. Eric cannot have health benefit coverage both as a GBP participant and as a dependent. He also cannot have basic term life insurance and dependent term life insurance as a dependent. In this situation, John should contact his benefits coordinator to remove Eric from health and dependent term life insurance coverage.<\/p>\n Are there any exceptions to the double coverage rule?<\/strong><\/p>\n Yes. Dependent children can have dependent term life insurance and\/or voluntary accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage through more than one GBP participant (e.g., two parents). This is the only circumstance double coverage is allowed.
