ACC\u2019s Center for Public Policy and Political Studies (CPPPS), the ACC Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and the Student Government Association invite ACC students to examine their knowledge and beliefs about the U.S. Constitution, and to reflect on the state of their rights in today\u2019s politically-charged climate at the tenth annual ACC Constitution Debate Day Celebration. Margaret Moore, Travis County District Attorney, will serve as the keynote speaker. Attendees will deliberate about and discuss U.S. Constitutional issues with facilitators.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a unique opportunity for ACC students. We\u2019re the only community college in the nation that does this,\u201d says Peck Young, director of ACC\u2019s Center for Public Policy and Political Studies (CPPPS). \u201cStudents will have the opportunity to debate contemporary constitutional issues and apply their critical thinking in non-confrontational atmosphere.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

This event is free and open to the public. Free food and parking is provided.<\/span><\/p>\n

About the keynote speaker: Margaret Moore was elected Travis County District Attorney on November 8, 2016. She earned a BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin in 1970 and a JD from the University of Texas School of Law in 1972. She was licensed to practice law in Texas in 1973. Her employment history as an attorney includes: legal counsel to Texas House of Representative committees (1974, 1975); Travis County Juvenile Public Defender, appointed to that position by the Commissioners\u2019 Court in 1976; Travis County Assistant District Attorney (1977-1980); Travis County Attorney (1981-1984), and Assistant Attorney General, Civil Medicaid Fraud Division (2005-2014).<\/span><\/p>\n
