Dr. Richard M. Rhodes, <\/b>President\/CEO, received the <\/span>Higher Education Leadership Award from the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Roland Hayes, <\/b>History Professor and Director of the African-American Cultural Center, \u00a0received the NAACP Lifetime Achievement Award.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Dr. Amardeep Kahlon<\/b> was recognized by Mike Midgley at the Dec. 4 Board of Trustees meeting. She organized and chaired the state\u2019s first CBE Best Practices Conference this year and will chair 2018\u2019s event as well. She has mentored several of ACC\u2019s peer colleges in CBE. Most recently, she was named one of ten Teaching Innovators by the Chronicle of Higher Education for \u201cusing fresh approaches\u201d in the classroom to help students succeed. She has worked at ACC for 21 years. <\/span><\/p>\n

Gerry Tucker <\/b>wrote a special in the <\/span>American-Statesman titled, \u201c<\/span>Learn how to pray to find positive in our world.\u201d <\/span>Read it here>><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wendy Pickard<\/strong>, Continuing Educator Healthcare Coordinator, was invited to participate in National Council State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) review team in Chicago. The national review team’s responsibilities were to review the 22 Nurse Aide Skills which are used for testing the Nurse Aide candidates after course completion. The revisions will be available in the Pearson Vue Candidate Handbook by July 2018.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Patricia Romero<\/b>, ACC student and ACC Chapter Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education (TACHE) Scholarship scholarship recipient, was highlighted at the Dec. 4 Board of Trustees meeting. Romero started at ACC in 2015 and is graduating in May with an associate degree in business administration then plans on continuing her studies toward a bachelor degree. Her mentor is Naomi Garza, College & High School Relations Coordinator, Data Management.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis scholarship allowed me to work part-time while focusing on and keeping up my good grades,\u201d says Romero. \u201cThe scholarship also gave me a sense of responsibility. Naomi Garza helped me realize that there are a lot of people that believed I could do something with my life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Kudos to ACC\u2019s \u00a0Intramural Sports Coach, <\/span>Tracy Partin<\/b>, who for 10 years has involved students in playing teams from Australia. The Riverbats intramural basketball All-Star teams defeated the Australian teams Wed., Dec. 6. (Women – 68-25, Men – 74-42)<\/span><\/p>\n
