\"\"Austin Community College (ACC) celebrates the grand opening of Elgin Campus Phase 2 Tuesday, February 6, 10 to 11:30 a.m. at ACC Elgin Campus (1501 W. US Hwy 290).<\/p>\n

The expansion includes specialized facilities for the college\u2019s Veterinary Technology<\/a> and Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship<\/a> programs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese new facilities allow us to expand training and learning in two crucial workforce programs,\u201d says Mike Midgley, vice president of Instruction. \u201cStudents gain specialized skills directly on campus.\u201d<\/p>\n

The expansion features an 18,500-square-foot academic building with a surgical clinic, small animal wards for the vet tech program, a state-of-the-art processing kitchen and market for the sustainable agriculture program, and teaching spaces. It also includes an 11,000-square-foot outbuilding with space for washing and handling crops and storing farming equipment. The outbuilding also holds covered pens for larger animals and a cattle chute.<\/p>\n

The new facilities adhere to government and accreditation requirements and will allow the college to expand its Sustainable Agriculture and Veterinary Technology programs.<\/p>\n

The grand opening celebration is free and open to the community. It will consist of a short program, ribbon-cutting, self-guided tours, and refreshments.<\/p>\n
