Attending the AACC Conference this spring? Our Student Services leadership will be there. Check out the ACC cross-departmental presentation on, \u201cEmergency Assistance: How institutions and students benefit.\u201d Presenters, <\/span>Dr. Mark Butland, Dr. Melissa Curtis, Steven Christopher <\/b>and Matthew Figg, <\/b>will discuss the student benefits of the <\/span>ACC Student Emergency Fund<\/span><\/a> and how it produces a healthy return on investment. <\/span><\/p>\n

Then, make it a point to learn more about how we\u2019re \u201cUsing Real-Time Predictive Analytics for Strategic Interventions,\u201d presented by <\/span>Dr. Virginia Fraire <\/b>and<\/span> Dr. Willie Martinez<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Many of the innovative ideas we implement at the college are based on human-centered design thinking; lean into an inspirational panel presentation from four college leaders, one of which is<\/span> Dr. Virginia Fraire<\/b>, as they discuss \u201cStudent-Centered and Design-Driven Leadership: Shaping the Future.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Lauren Sebel<\/b>, Director of Student Accessibility Services, successfully defended her dissertation, “Accommodating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury in Student Veterans at Texas Community Colleges: A Collective Case Study Analysis of the Experience and Perceptions of Disability Service Practitioners,” earning her Doctorate in Higher Education from Texas Tech University. She hopes to use her findings to guide not only Student Accessibility Services for ACC student veterans, but also to provide guidance to other community college disability services personnel. <\/span><\/p>\n

Perry Crafton<\/b> recently completed his term as Chair of the Higher Education section of the Texas Educational Theatre Association and member of the TETA Board of Directors.<\/span><\/p>\n

Greg Romero\u2019s<\/b> full-length play, Door to Balloon, was presented in New York City as a staged reading by Boomerang Theatre Company as part of their “First Flight Festival of New Plays.” The reading took place at Ripley-Grier Studios on March 11. His all-ages play, Of Plastic Things and Butterfly Wings, will be produced by Dripping Springs High School on May 1.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kristen Rogers<\/b> is directing Little Women, the Broadway Musical, as a Guest Director at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. The show runs April 12-15 and April 19-22. For more information, please visit this site<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Terry Barksdale<\/b>, Head Librarian, Associate Professor, was elected to the Executive Board of the ACC AFT Union as Executive Vice President for full time faculty in March.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nora Comstock,<\/b> Ph.D., is an entrepreneur and business leader, founder of Comstock Connections and national and international founder of Las Comadres Para Las Americas, current member of Austin Community College District Board of Trustees, and member of the Texas Women\u2019s Hall of Fame. Each year, the Girls Scouts of Central Texas judiciously selects a small group of leaders to honor as Women of Distinction. Comstock will be saluted at a luncheon on April 26 at the AT&T Center.
