The award recognizes programs that use evidence-based practices to improve educational achievement for Latino students in higher education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe are honored to be recognized among the top organizations in our nation that are building opportunities for hope,\u201d says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC president\/CEO. \u201cACC collaborates closely with our partners to identify gaps and find solutions that better support our students. The Ascender Program is a promising model. We\u2019re empowering students to follow their dreams and giving personalized guidance that will help carry them forward.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students participating in the program belong to a cohort and receive: \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One-on-one mentoring<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Accelerated instruction in English and Math <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Academic counseling <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Writing assistance<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Classes and college activities that have a multicultural emphasis<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Participants first earn an associate degree and then transfer to a four-year university. Currently, the program is available at ACC\u2019s Riverside, Highland, and South Austin campuses.
