Today is the one-year anniversary of the tragic violence that took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In honor of the anniversary, the governor issued an order to lower flags to half-staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The college also will host opportunities for employees and students to come together in conversation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe remain deeply saddened by the events of that day. Our hearts are with the survivors,\u201d says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC Chancellor. \u201cAs a place of learning, it is up to us to provide space for conversation, where we can come together to remember, honor, and heal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ACC\u2019s<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.austincc.edu\/business-community\/truth-racial-healing-and-transformation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Truth, Racial Healing &amp; Transformation Center at Highland Campus<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/students.austincc.edu\/latin-american-cultural-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Latin American Cultural Center at Riverside Campus<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;host a special remembrance hour starting at&nbsp;<strong>11 a.m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The events will include a moment of silence, and counselors will be onsite for those who may want additional support.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As always, students may visit with a counselor in person on any ACC campus or virtually, and employees may use the college\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.austincc.edu\/offices\/benefits\/employee-support-programs\/employee-assistance-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>employee assistance programs for ongoing counseling support<\/strong><\/a><strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"940\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2023\/05\/Remembrance-Hour.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2023\/05\/Remembrance-Hour.png 940w, https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2023\/05\/Remembrance-Hour-300x251.png 300w, https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2023\/05\/Remembrance-Hour-768x644.png 768w, https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2023\/05\/Remembrance-Hour-150x126.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Flags are at half-staff at all campuses across ACC District today, Wednesday, May 24, 2023, in honor of the victims, survivors, families, loved ones, and the entire Uvalde community.
