Austin Community College District (ACC) celebrates more than 3,700 graduates who were invited to its fall 2023 commencement ceremony. Friends and family will celebrate with graduates on\u00a0 Thursday, December 7, at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park.<\/p>\n

One of those students is Tsega Ande. After beginning at ACC in 2017, 45-year-old Tsega is completing her associate degree in professional nursing. She came to ACC through support from the college\u2019s partnership with Capital IDEA, which provides personalized assistance and support to eligible students. <\/p>\n

Tell me about your time at ACC<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am a mother of three children. I came to the U.S. in September 2015. When I started at ACC, I only took one class per semester. I had to work full time to provide for my two kids, who I left with my mother due to the visa process.<\/p>\n

In 2020, I got accepted to ACC for the nursing program, and Capital IDEA also accepted me to cover all my school payments. During my first semester in the program, my kids’ visas were approved. After many ups and downs, I brought them here and continued my classes. During the trip, I was constantly in contact with the head of the nursing program, Sheila, and my navigator, Tonia. They both were very positive and encouraged me to take my time and be safe, and I would have my spot in the program when I returned. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I wouldn\u2019t be here, graduating, without Capital IDEA and ACC\u2019s flexibility. Thank you, and God bless you all.<\/p>\n

How does it feel to be graduating<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am very excited and eager to be on the stage. I look forward to my career and being an extra hand to the hospital nurses.<\/p>\n

What was your favorite part of ACC<\/strong><\/p>\n

Flexibility. If there is a will, there is a way to learn.<\/p>\n

Any faculty or staff you want to recognize supporting you<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr. Frank, Professor Frank, helped me a lot when I started school and took English Composition I (Tutorial). He is so patient and always in a good mood.<\/p>\n

What is next for you<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am getting ready to take the NCLEX (the national nursing certification exam) and find a job. <\/p>\n

What would you tell someone considering applying for college<\/strong><\/p>\n

I will say that everything is possible. You only need to have a target. Sooner or later, you will achieve your goals if you reach for them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
