ACC gets ready for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On April 8, 2024, most of Central Texas will be in the direct line to witness a total solar eclipse. Austin Community College District (ACC) is your place to learn what you need to know and get your eclipse glasses.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Total solar eclipses are rare, can only be seen from certain parts of the Earth, and last for only a few minutes at most. They occur when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, blocking the entire disk of the sun and casting a shadow on the Earth&#8217;s surface.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ACC expert Physics &amp; Astronomy Professor Dr. Michael Endl discusses what makes a total solar eclipse a remarkable celestial event. Beginning Monday, April 1, special protective glasses will be available at all ACC campuses across the district. These glasses are free, and we encourage everyone to grab a pair for themselves, friends, and family to join in the eclipse excitement (limit three per person).
