Austin Community College (ACC) invites faculty, staff, students, and the community to explore culture and equity through the arts during National Day of Racial Healing noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, at ACC Highland, Building 4000 (6101 Highland Campus Dr.). <\/p>\n
\u201cThe college is dedicated to creating a more just and equitable world by bringing people together to take action,\u201d says Dr. Molly Beth Malcolm, ACC executive vice president of campus operations and public affairs. \u201cAllowing students, faculty, and staff to share their experiences will help create a more inclusive environment, despite race, sexuality, or gender.\u201d<\/p>\n
ACC events include a poetry reading, dance and musical performances, and other art initiatives that address this year\u2019s theme: \u201cWhat\u2019s Your Story?\u201d An art exhibit featuring works by ACC students, faculty, staff, and community members also will be on display through February at ACC Highland.<\/p>\n
Additional interactive events to encourage conversation, racial understanding, and racial healing will be held at campuses districtwide through January 25.<\/p>\n
The events are part of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation\u2019s Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation effort \u2014 a national, community-based initiative to address historic and contemporary effects of racism. ACC is one of the 10 national institutions selected to serve as a Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Campus Center.<\/p>\n
