{"id":49421,"date":"2019-03-15T15:08:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-15T20:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=49421"},"modified":"2024-10-30T15:10:25","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T20:10:25","slug":"spring-food-drive-brings-in-a-ton-of-donations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/03\/15\/spring-food-drive-brings-in-a-ton-of-donations\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring Food Drive brings in a ton of donations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than 2,200 pounds of food were collected during Austin Community College&#8217;s (ACC) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.austincc.edu\/news\/2019\/02\/acc-spring-food-drive-helps-tackle-student-hunger\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spring Food Drive<\/a> in February.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The donations collected will be distributed to ACC students through the Student Life Food Pantry program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We greatly appreciate everyone&#8217;s support and efforts to help our students who struggle with basic food needs,&#8221; says Dr. Guillermo &#8220;Willie&#8221; Martinez, Student Engagement and Analytics associate vice president. &#8220;These donations will assist approximately 500 students.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Approximately 700 pounds of food were given out to students via food pantries in 2018. Further,&nbsp;in fall 2018, ACC partnered with the Central Texas Food Bank to begin offering a food bank on-site once a month for ACC students.
