Austin Community College (ACC) hosts a final information session for the Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy 10 a.m to noon, Saturday, June 15, at Highland Campus, Building 1000 (6101 Highland Campus Dr.). The unique partnership allows students to complete the first two years of an A&M engineering degree at ACC.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis partnership creates new possibilities for students to attend one of the top engineering programs in Texas while reducing the cost of a bachelor\u2019s degree for students,\u201d says Dr. David Fonken, ACC Science, Engineering & Math dean. \u201cThe need for engineers grows every day, and this program will help fill that void.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Austin Chamber of Commerce expects the demand for engineers to reach more than 4,800 by 2022.  The Texas Workforce Commission projects a 25 percent growth statewide in engineering jobs over the next ten years.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve known since my sophomore year of high school that I wanted to study engineering. ACC was the best option financially. I\u2019m very interested in renewable energy. I guess I want to save the world,” says Lily Brazell, Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy student.<\/p>\n

The Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy at ACC guarantees students admission to Texas A&M at College Station to complete their bachelor\u2019s degree. The Engineering Academy is open to all students who have a high school diploma or equivalent and are pre-calculus or calculus ready.<\/p>\n

The deadline to apply is June 30.<\/p>\n
