{"id":49912,"date":"2019-09-12T13:24:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-12T18:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=49912"},"modified":"2024-11-10T13:26:01","modified_gmt":"2024-11-10T18:26:01","slug":"new-scholarship-for-elgin-veteran-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/2019\/09\/12\/new-scholarship-for-elgin-veteran-students\/","title":{"rendered":"New scholarship for Elgin veteran students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Austin Community College (ACC) veteran students now have an opportunity to earn additional financial assistance for college with the new Bastrop County Veterans Educational Scholarship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The scholarship is a collaboration of Elgin Campus Student Affairs and two veteran organizations in Elgin \u2014 VFW Post-6115 and American Legion Post 295.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This was truly veterans helping veterans,&#8221; says Henry Leal, Elgin Campus Testing Center supervisor and Elgin Campus Veterans Committee member. &#8220;In essence, this came about through the culmination of a very strong ACC campus community and local community relationship since the opening of this campus.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each semester, the Elgin Campus Veterans Committee will award a $750 scholarship to a veteran student.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The committee recently awarded its first scholarship to Guadalupe Lozano. The U.S. Army veteran is studying biology and hopes to use his education and military background to become a Texas Park Ranger.
