{"id":50953,"date":"2020-12-18T12:23:00","date_gmt":"2020-12-18T17:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=50953"},"modified":"2024-11-26T12:25:17","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T17:25:17","slug":"students-apply-now-for-summer-stem-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/2020\/12\/18\/students-apply-now-for-summer-stem-experience\/","title":{"rendered":"Students: Apply now for summer STEM experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Austin Community College District (ACC) students interested in careers in biopharmaceuticals may apply now for a special, summer STEM program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applications are now open for the 2021 NIIMBL eXperience.&nbsp;The two-week virtual program provides students opportunities to learn about the operations of large biomanufacturers, cutting-edge technologies, and how the federal government plays a role in bringing life-saving treatments to patients.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>About the Experience<br \/><\/strong>Over the course of two weeks, students will attend a series of virtual interactive sessions and presentations hosted by industry experts, nonprofits, and academia.&nbsp;Participants can gain a deeper understanding of how the biopharmaceutical industry impacts the lives of patients around the world and explore pathways to a successful career in the industry.&nbsp;In previous years, hosts have included top biopharmaceutical companies Genentech, Merck, and AstraZeneca.&nbsp;Throughout the program, students get:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A snapshot into the world of biopharmaceuticals<\/li>\n<li>Access to industry experts<\/li>\n<li>Networking opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Career development expertise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Who Can Apply<br \/><\/strong>The program is open to all freshman and sophomore students enrolled in a STEM-based major. It specifically targets African-American\/Black, Latinx, and Native American students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The application deadline is January 31.
