Austin Community College District (ACC) announces Gizette Disher as the College\u2019s new Chief of Police, effective Monday, August 4, 2025. Chief Disher will lead the ACC District Police Department, one of only about 10 fully commissioned police forces at community colleges in Texas.<\/p>\n

Chief Disher will be responsible for overseeing a team of 94 commissioned officers and 20 professional staff. She will be responsible for all public safety operations across the District\u2019s campuses, bringing strategic leadership, operational oversight, and emergency preparedness to the role.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Her experience and commitment to community policing reflect the values we hold at ACC\u2014creating a safe, welcoming environment where everyone feels they belong,\u201d says Neil Vickers, Executive Vice Chancellor of Finance & Administration. \u201cHer passion, dedication, and focus on connection will help strengthen safety and trust across our campuses.\u201d<\/p>\n

Disher was selected following a nationwide search and extensive interview process, including a campuswide conversation with the ACC community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to serving the ACC community and being part of the growth and vision of our future,\u201d says Chief Disher. \u201cMy top three goals are: 1. Be visible and engaged to learn the needs of the ACC community; 2. Understand the concerns based on those needs; and 3. Collaborate with the ACC community to improve any shortcomings and challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n

With 29 years of public safety experience, Chief Disher comes to ACC from the Austin Police Department, where she most recently served as assistant chief overseeing the Special Victims Bureau. Over her career, she has led divisions in patrol, recruiting, training, emergency management, and major crimes. She was also APD\u2019s first Executive Lieutenant appointed as Community Engagement Coordinator to the Chief\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Chief Disher started her college career at ACC and transferred to Texas State University, where she earned her bachelor\u2019s degree. She later earned a master\u2019s in Criminal Justice Leadership from Sam Houston State University. She is also a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement<\/a> Certified Master Peace Officer and a Certified Public Manager. She graduated in June 2023 from the Senior Management Institute for Police<\/a> and expects to graduate in August 2025 from the Police Executive Leadership Institute<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
