Austin Community College District (ACC) celebrates Elodia E., the 2025 Chancellor\u2019s Student Achievement Award recipient. As a first-generation graduate, Elodia immigrated from Mexico at age 11, arriving in the U.S. with limited English and a childhood shaped by instability. <\/p>\n

When she came to ACC, everything changed. Here, she found the one thing that had been missing: a community that saw her potential, supported her growth, and helped her begin to live without that shield.<\/p>\n

She joined a service-learning class where she helped create a Book Swap project. That small initiative became a breakthrough moment. She showcased it at the Service-Learning Showcase, earning second place. Following that success, she joined AMIGOS, ACC\u2019s Latino-serving student organization, where she was unanimously elected as President.<\/p>\n

In that role, she revitalized the Book Swap initiative, forging partnerships with Library Services, the Office of Energy & Sustainability, Service-Learning, and dozens of student volunteers. Together, they collected more than 200 books and hosted recurring campus events that celebrated culture, identity, and community.<\/p>\n

Her engagement stretches across nearly every corner of the college: Honors Program student<\/a>, Ascender alumna<\/a>, Service-Learning Ambassador, community volunteer at the Elgin Farm, and recipient of the Spring 2025 Thrive! Award and Student Life\u2019s Legacy of Leaders Outstanding Collaboration Award.<\/p>\n

Elodia will graduate this fall with an Associate of Arts in Psychology.  Next up, she plans to transfer to earn a bachelor\u2019s degree and teaching certification in Psychology. Eventually, she hopes to earn her Ph.D. and become a professor.<\/p>\n
