Throughout the week, the College will test and practice its emergency response procedures districtwide with campus drills and an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.austincc.edu\/emergency-information\/acc-emergency-alert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Emergency Alert<\/strong><\/a> test.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a crisis, the last thing you want is confusion. We\u2019re here to help, but when we all know the right moves to make, we can protect one another that much faster,\u201d says ACC Police Chief Gizette Disher. \u201cA prepared community is our strongest asset. Knowing exactly what to do allows you to stay calm, act with confidence, and look out for those around you.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Campus Drills<\/h2>\n<p>Drills are scheduled at campuses throughout the week. You can get prepared ahead of time by reviewing our <a href=\"https:\/\/offices.austincc.edu\/emergency-management\/building-evacuation-procedure-and-responsibilities\/emergency-egress-map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>emergency egress plans<\/strong><\/a>. This special map is designed to help you find campus exits and alternate routes. You can also find rally points at each campus. These are areas you\u2019ll want to go to in the event of an evacuation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Emergency Alert System Test<\/h2>\n<p>On Wednesday, February 4, ACC will test its <a href=\"https:\/\/offices.austincc.edu\/emergency-management\/acc-emergency-alert\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Emergency Alert System<\/strong><\/a>. Now is the time to make sure your emergency contact information is up to date. During the test, you\u2019ll receive warning messages through text and email.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To get ready, <a href=\"https:\/\/offices.austincc.edu\/emergency-management\/acc-emergency-alert\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>verify or update your contact information<\/strong><\/a>. Emergency message boards and PA speakers around campus also may be activated. We\u2019ll also post a test message on the ACC website and on our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/accdistrict\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Facebook<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>page.<\/p>\n<p>Any message from our Emergency Alert System will display as \u201cACC Emergency Alert.\u201d We recommend you create or update the entry in your phone\u2019s contacts list with the following information: 226787, 67283, 78015, 81437 (enter these \u201cshort codes\u201d as individual phone numbers) and <a href=\"mailto:austincc@getrave.com\">austincc@getrave.com<\/a> OR <a href=\"mailto:messages@getrave.com\">messages@getrave.com<\/a> (if your phone doesn\u2019t receive short codes).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prepare Today for EPW<\/h2>\n<p>Below are simple steps you can take to get ready for the semester ahead.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>View the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.austincc.edu\/emergency-notifications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ACC Emergency website<\/strong><\/a> for detailed information about various types of emergencies.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Get connected to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austincc.edu\/about-acc\/acc-on-social-media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ACC on social media<\/strong><\/a>. Most emergency alerts that are distributed through our Emergency Alert System also are posted to the College\u2019s homepage and its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ACCDistrict\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Facebook<\/strong><\/a> page.<\/li>\n<li>Know the <a href=\"https:\/\/offices.austincc.edu\/emergency-management\/building-evacuation-procedure-and-responsibilities\/emergency-egress-map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Emergency Egress Plan<\/strong><\/a>. Maps are posted on every campus and in classrooms to identify emergency exits, Areas of Rescue Assistance, Automated External Defibrillators, shelter-in-place locations in the event of severe weather, and evacuation rally points.<\/li>\n<li>Learn <a href=\"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/blog\/2024\/08\/21\/acc-adopts-new-safety-protocols-to-enhance-campus-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ACC\u2019s 5 Safety Actions<\/strong><\/a>. These actions are uniquely designed to address specific emergency scenarios. New, special resource guides with details about each step are now available in every classroom and office suite. Each guide offers details for every action step, including:\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Hold: &#8220;In Your Room or Area&#8221; | <\/strong>During a Hold, individuals are instructed to remain in their current room or area until further notice, ensuring that hallways are free for emergency responders or to isolate a specific area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Secure: &#8220;Get Inside. Lock Outside Doors&#8221; | <\/strong>The Secure protocol directs everyone to get inside and lock exterior doors to prevent potential threats from entering the building while maintaining a safe environment inside.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lockdown: &#8220;Locks, Lights, Out of Sight&#8221; | <\/strong>Lockdown protocol asks occupants to lock their doors, turn off lights, and remain out of sight, making it difficult for intruders to find them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Evacuate: \u201cGet Out\u201d | <\/strong>The Evacuate directive, which may be followed by a specified location, is used to move people from one area to another, either within the building or outside, for swift and orderly evacuation in case of fires, chemical spills, or other emergencies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shelter: \u201cState the Hazard and Safety Strategy\u201d | <\/strong>For situations like severe weather or hazardous material incidents, the Shelter protocol is activated.
