How to Coordinate the Preceptorship

Affiliation Agreement  A sample affiliation agreement. Community colleges may already have a standard affiliation agreement that can be used for this program. This sample is provided only as a guide for colleges who do not already have an agreement in place. It is recommended the college attorney be involved in the drafting of an affiliation agreement for the first time.

Syllabus- RNSG 1006/VNSG 2033: Re-Entry Nursing Update  A sample syllabus for the didactic component of the Distance Learning Re-Entry Nursing course. Community colleges may adopt or alter this syllabus to serve the local need. This sample does comply with WECM, and recommended curriculum development standards, and is applicable for both the RN and LVN version of the clinical preceptorship.

Recommended Skills Review, Lab Schedule, and Supplies  Recommendations for the specific nursing skills to review, supplies needed for basic review of nursing skills, and a sample lab schedule for the Distance Learning Re-Entry Nursing course.

Nursing Skills Checklist   A required checklist for students to complete during the skills lab and/or clinical preceptorship. Completion of this checklist demonstrates the student has reviewed and practiced basic nursing skills and provides supporting documentation for the Board of Nurse Examiners (BNE) as well as potential employers.

Clinical Placement Checklist  A checklist of items required before students can be placed in a clinical preceptorship. Many of these items are required by both community colleges and clinical facilities (based on JCAHO expectations). Students should submit this document to the course coordinator/instructor as soon as possible following registration to avoid delays in beginning the clinical preceptorship. It is recommended that a student not is allowed to enter the clinical setting without successful completion of this checklist.

Student Clinical Placement Information Student completion of this document will assist the course coordinator/instructor in placing students for clinical preceptorship. Submission of this document should be returned to the course coordinator/instructor as soon as possible to assist in appropriate clinical placement.

Clinical Placement Time Log  Students use this document to track clinical hours in the clinical preceptorship and submit it upon completion of the clinical preceptorship to the course coordinator/instructor to show proof of the 72-hour preceptorship completion. Signature/initial by the clinical preceptor is recommended for verification of actual time completed in the clinical setting.

Required and Recommended Textbooks A listing of the required and recommended textbooks along with additional instructional resources. The on-line didactic is aligned to the required textbooks.
