Remember that significant others can provide valuable feedback.<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>Isolate the source of the stress<\/h2>\n<p>Ask yourself, &#8221; Am I causing my own distress?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thinking skills may apply.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Go to the next step.<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>Determine what you can and cannot do to alleviate your stress<\/h2>\n<p>Ask yourself, &#8220;Can I change this situation?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yes:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>list all possible solutions, communication and organizing skills may work here<\/li>\n<li>determine what the consequences of each solution might be<\/li>\n<li>prioritize the solutions, and<\/li>\n<li>carry out your plan<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>No:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>leave, get away, vamoose, or<\/li>\n<li>learn to live with it, then relaxation training and good health habits may be your best techniques, or<\/li>\n<li>get around it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>Evaluate the effectiveness of your actions<\/h2>\n<p>Return to Step One, and continually monitor your stress level. If high, repeat Steps Two and Three and make necessary adjustments.
