Associate Degrees & Certificates
Graphic design involves taking different elements—typography, photography, illustrations—and orchestrating them to produce a single, powerful message. It involves form, balance, structure, rhythm, and harmony. Graphic design involves working in different media, conceptual thinking, effective planning, organization, and communicating with expertise and intuition. In our graphic design program, you’ll work with other motivated students to learn the tools, technologies, and concepts that will help you become a graphic designer, assistant art director or digital artist.
Graphic Media Production
Graphic Media Production will prepare you for a career in technical support for graphic design. You’ll acquire advanced computer and production skills, an in-depth knowledge of print processes, and basic web page support skills. Our faculty are experts in graphic design with years of experience in their disciplines—they’ll help you learn how to troubleshoot the most complicated production problems. And our computer labs are fitted with the latest software, so you’ll master the right tools for the job.
UX: User Experience
Our approach is multidisciplinary — we blend UX concept and method courses, software instruction, and UXLab for an engaging, fast-paced educational experience. Students begin their journey in the Survey of User Experience Design course. Here you are introduced to common UX Methods, including design strategy and research, user centered design, design thinking, concepting, visual design, user interface design, prototyping, design + coding, and testing. With the support and mentoring of full-time faculty and the experience of our adjunct instructors, who are UX industry practitioners, you will gain applied understanding, and practical knowledge of relevant UX methods and deliverables.
Visual designers create layouts and components for digital media. Working with user experience designers and web developers, visual designers use color, typography, imagery, shapes, and form to define and express a brand’s unique style. In this degree, students will learn design principles as they relate to the screen, as well as branding, iconography, usability, accessibility, and more.
Enhanced Skills Certificate
In our illustration program you’ll learn how to illustrate with traditional materials as well as create digital illustrations using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. You’ll practice different styles of illustration, and you’ll learn how to make your illustrations work hand-in-hand with the subject you’re illustrating.
NOTE: This advanced certificate is designed for Visual Communication students who have already completed an Associate of Applied Science in Visual Communication and/or an Associate of Art (or higher) in Art.
