Damien
I am a student worker in the Admissions Office at Austin Community College in Round Rock. I am currently going to school undecided but my main plans are to transfer to a school I can play basketball or get an associate degree in kinesiology, child development, business administration, and/or musical engineering. I am a musician for my church and I’m in a band – we play locally. I am also involved in a men’s leagues to increase my exposure. I use to work at the YMCA before I started school in the fall, and I am also a musical instructor WOOH (Works of Our Hands Youth Outreach). I do everything I’m doing because I have a lot of talents and I would hate to waste them. I feel that children are our future and no one is taking the time out to understand them. I wasn’t shown a lot growing up so I feel someone should take the time to help develop the people of tomorrow. The best thing about ACC is the staff and the relationships you build with everyday people! They are willing to help with any thing you may have a problem with. I have just been accepted in the MOD (Men of Distinction) program that helps young African American males stay focused in school. My best memory besides winning second place in the intramural competition is attending the TABPHE Conference. MOD invited me and a few fellow student to speak and a help, the people that were helping us understand the problems we as students are having and help come up with solutions for those problems.
