Gongfu Cha Tea Demonstration – May 10, 2024
The Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Cultural Center at ACC is partnering with West China Tea (WCT) to host a Gongfu Cha Demonstration to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month. Gongfu Cha (or Gongfu Tea, Chinese: 工夫茶/功夫茶) translates to “making tea with skill”. It is a traditional Chinese tea preparation method sometimes referred to as a “tea ceremony”. The practice involves using smaller brewing vessels and a higher leaf-to-water ratio than in Western-style brewing. Today, the approach is used widely by teashops carrying tea of Chinese or Taiwanese origin.
West China Tea started in 2012 as a specialty importer of farm-direct Chinese tea in Austin. Having built tea culture in Texas for the past decade, WCT now operates a large tea house and offers events, classes, and training, as well as more than 200 different teas from more than 40 different suppliers from all over China. Their goal is to spread tea culture and grow community one cup at a time.
