The team has been working on updates to ACC’s default WordPress theme. The development test link can be found here: https://austinccdev429.wpengine.com/

List of the changes for this version of the ACC 2015 Default WordPress Theme:
- The theme is utilizing Bootstrap 5.3.3 which is the latest stable release version as well as Font Awesome 6.4.2 (We’ll look at moving this to 6.7.2 if needed).
- The default desktop and mobile displays have been widened. The theme has been tested with the most popular screen resolutions that we are seeing through analytics with CSS media queries for mobile display targeting these particular resolutions.
- When viewing in mobile, both Top Menus and Sidebar menus will display under the menu “hamburger” icon. Previously only the top menu would display here and the Sidebar menu would be at the bottom of the screen.
- Default Sidebar menu styles have been updated. The Sidebar and Top Menu menus handle up to 3 levels of navigation fairly well. Content display styles within sidebar “widgets” have also been updated.
- The “Audience” menu and “Top Menu” styles have also been updated.
- Breadcrumbs trail links will now reflect the subdomain in which the page resides. “ACC Home” will always be the first link in any breadcrumb trail.
Note: The test subdomain breadcrumb link in this test may not be functional as it in this development container. - The Featured Image now appears below the H1 title.
- The default font has been set to “Inter” provided by Google Fonts. This font was tested with the the Free Tuition microsite and its a great fit for this particular theme moving forward. ACC’s brand font remains “Gotham”. Please review the ACC Typography page at the ACC Brand Standards website for further information.
- Default typography and various component styles within the main content area have been updated.
- “Featured Images” will now display within post main content areas, as opposed to the large banners on pages.
- Content has been added to the theme’s pre-footer main CTA’s.
- Required compliance links have been added to the footer.
- Technical accessibility updates have been implemented and more are planned.
Note: Accessibility checkers are reporting contrast errors within our button elements even though we’ve cross-checked this issue on it’s own. We’ll continue to investigate.
Other notes:
There will be no change to the content editing experience within the Gutenberg editor.
There will not be any changes to URLs, site structures, and other specific website configurations within the WordPress environment when a website using this theme is updated.
The team is evaluating other solutions for sites utilizing the “Bellows Menus” plug-in for collapsible Sidemenu functionality. I should have an update on those efforts shortly.
After deployment, Featured Images on pages may need to be reset due to the widened container. The OCRM webteam can assist as needed. This issue does not negatively impact page display or functionality.
