Adding an event from the ACC College Wide Calendar to your personal calendar

Recently at a web committee meeting a member of the committee stated that a function of the ACC College Wide Calendar doesn’t work with a Macintosh. The calendar does have many features and one of them is the ability to add an event to your personal calendar, or upload to your ACC ical calendar. Here is how that is accomplished. Click the small thumbnails for a larger view of each.
Let’s say I saw an event on the homepage that I want to view and add it to my personal calendar. I select it from the homepage…

Once I click on the listing from the homepage I come to the event listing in which details about the event are available. Now i have 3 options. “Notify Me” allows the calendar to email me if there is a change in this event, “Add to My Calendar” allows me to add the event to my personal calendar, “email a friend” sends the listing to a friends email address. I want to add the listing to my personal calendar so i select “Add to My Calendar”

This brings up the “Add to My Calendar” dialog box. Here it asks me if i want to be notified via email if the event changes in some way (same as “notify me” function). I can either choose to enter my email address or not. I also know that i need an iCal file format. This may be different depending on your calendar client (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc).
I select the iCal format and press continue

The file is automatically downloaded and opened.

This step may differ form calendar application to calendar application.

I am notified that the calendar contains new events and where I would like to place my event. T I want the listing under my “Work” calendar because I would like to take some personal time to attend the event. I select the “Work” option and click OK.

My calendar is then populated with the listing including all the details that i saw in the online event listing. From this point I can customize the listing inside of my personal calendar any way I see fit.

I have tested this process with IE/Outlook and the steps are identical. There is a problem with Firefox 2.0.0.13 on the Mac OSX platform as the calendar wishes to execute an .aspx file. Switch over to Safari and it will work. From here you can take the file and upload to your ACC ical calendar or any other function you may need to perform.

I hope that this small part of the ACC College Wide Calendar helps keep you on top of the many events happening here at ACC.
