Coronavirus Update: ACC’s Efforts to Monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Situation | Faculty & Staff

MEMORANDUM

TO: All Employees
FROM: Geraldine J. Tucker, Vice Chancellor, Human Resources
DATE: March 6, 2020
SUBJECT: Coronavirus Update

This memo is to update employees on ACC’s efforts to monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. You can find up-to-date information on ACC’s coronavirus website at austincc.edu/coronavirus. Updates are also posted on Facebook and Twitter.

At this time ACC does not anticipate closing the College. There are no known cases or patients among ACC students, faculty and staff, or in the Austin/Travis/Williamson County area. Health officials “highly recommend that students, staff, as well as faculty, and the general public, continue to practice preventive actions.”

The College continues to take steps to ensure your safety as noted in Dr. Rhodes’ email on March 2, 2020. The ACC executive team has developed plans that focus on prevention and preparedness. The College has taken preventive steps including posting signage on all campuses about washing hands and hygiene habits to prevent the spread of the virus, custodial crews have sanitized facilities, and hand sanitation stations are available on all campuses.

Any decisions that may need to be made regarding changes to College operations, including closure of the College or specific campuses, will be made by the ACC executive team in coordination with appropriate state and local health officials. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) currently states (as of March 5, 2020) “For the general American public, who are unlikely to be exposed to this virus at this time, the immediate health risk from COVID-19 is considered low.”

As this situation evolves, the College will monitor the situation and be prepared to address employee concerns and questions. If the situation changes we will be prepared to address leave, telecommuting possibilities, staff assignments, office hours, pay, travel, and other job-related questions. If you have a specific question at this time, please email them to [email protected]. Questions and responses will be posted on the ACC coronavirus website, as appropriate. A summary of related HR Benefits Resources is available at the HR Benefits website at austincc.edu/offices/benefits.

We will make every effort to keep you updated on the College’s plans to address the coronavirus situation. Please visit the website at austincc.edu/coronavirus.
