Message from the President: ACC COVID-19 Updates | Faculty & Staff

Dear Riverbats,

Austin Community College District (ACC) continues to monitor Coronavirus (COVID-19) developments and is taking additional steps to comply with the latest state and local guidance to ensure the health of our community. All teaching, learning, and working that can be done remotely will continue in a virtual environment through summer and fall. Any essential on-campus activity will follow new health and safety precautions.

Limited courses that require face-to-face instruction — primarily in health sciences and applied technologies — will return to campus starting July 6 with smaller class sizes to ensure safe social distancing practices. In addition to social distancing, the college will require facial coverings at all times in ACC buildings. These coverings may only be removed if you are alone in a private space like an individual office. You may view the new health and safety protocols before coming to campus.

Only those who must work on campus or those who have an in-person class will be allowed on campus. ACCelerators will remain closed until further notice, and student services will continue online. Students will still have online access to all the support they’re used to getting at ACC including 1-on-1 tutoring, advising, and academic coaching.

We also will continue to loan iPads and laptops to students and employees who need access to equipment for their courses and work. Our IT department is working to expand WIFI hotspots in parking lots at all ACC campuses.

As events happen, situations change, and decisions come down from our local, state, and national governments and health authorities, ACC will adjust its plans to help prevent the spread of the pandemic. Your health, safety, and well-being is our top priority. We will continue to share information and updates with you as our plans evolve. I encourage you to follow the latest information on ACC’s Coronavirus webpage

At ACC, we want you to feel informed, supported, and safe — particularly now when there are so many unknowns in our lives. My promise to you is that ACC will continue to do all that we can to support you through this pandemic. I thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have questions or concerns, please share them with us at [email protected].

Regards,
Richard M. Rhodes, Ph.D.
