ACC has an apprenticeship program in place to assist Journalism students in obtaining experience for inclusion on their resumes. ACC’s apprenticeship program does not transfer as college credit nor are the apprentices paid for their experiences. However, this would serve as an invaluable opportunity to gain journalism knowledge and feedback from experts in their fields.

An apprenticeship will consist of “shadowing” (following) a reporter, editor or producer through their day in order to see the responsibilities and duties that are part of their job. Shadowing will assist you in knowing what a reporter editor or producer does and in making career choices. You will be assigned your apprenticeship for a 3 to 4 week period, scheduled around your ACC classes. We are partnering with several Central Texas organizations form the broadcast, print, and online media for this initiative. Among the participants are Time Warner Cable News, the Austin Business Journal, the Austin Chronicle, the Texas Tribune, and the ACC Marketing Department.

You are eligible to apply for an internship if you have credit for COMM 1307 (Intro to Mass Communications). Please fill out this form and return to Paul Brown at You will be contacted for an interview.  If you are placed in an apprenticeship, you will be responsible for contacting the individual scheduling internships at the media where you are assigned.

Announcements are used to communicate with students about the logistics of your course.
