ACC selects Pfluger Associates for Leander Campus construction

The Austin Community College District (ACC) Board of Trustees has selected Pfluger Associates as the lead architect/engineering team for ACC Leander Campus

“This selection is an important and meaningful step forward. The community has been waiting. It’s been 30 years in the making,” says Dr. Vic Villarreal, ACC Board chair, regarding the decision, which was made at the board’s July 6 meeting. “This campus will serve a growing part of our district; expand educational opportunities to thousands, and relieve crowding at ACC’s Cypress Creek Campus.”

ACC Leander Campus, funded by voter-approved bonds, will initially offer general education courses. Tentative plans include classrooms and labs, a library and media center, offices, and student support spaces, as well as multipurpose and meeting rooms, and a smaller version of the ACC Highland Campus ACCelerator computer lab.

“Seeing the progress toward this campus is exciting. We’re looking at not only the current needs, but the future needs. Leander is growing, and we need to expand opportunities here so that people can learn, work, play, and stay,” says Chris Fielder, City of Leander mayor.

ACC staff will work with the Leander community in the coming months to develop campus-specific programs.

“This campus will open new pathways to one of our longest-standing community partners. We want to ensure thoughtful planning,” says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC president and CEO. “We look forward to hearing what ideas Leander brings to the table.”

The board is expected to select the construction manager at-risk for the campus in fall. Next steps include campus design and space selection for college programs.
