Austin Community College District’s (ACC) The Art Galleries (TAG) invites students, educators, and community members to experience “Lessons Learned: Selections from the American Classroom Series,” an exhibition by Houston-based artist and educator Darla Barolini.
Drawing from Barolini’s experiences teaching art at both the high school and college levels, the exhibition offers a personal perspective on the American classroom and the moments of tension, vulnerability, connection, and understanding that can shape spaces of learning.

“Lessons Learned: Selections from the American Classroom Series” is on display at Highland Campus, Gallery 2000, Room 2.2450, through Thursday, December 3. TAG is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment on Monday and Friday.
More About the Exhibition
The works in Barolini’s “American Classroom” series are reimagined scenes from the artist’s memories, observations, and collected visual references of classrooms. While the works center on adolescence and education, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on experiences that connect us as people.
Barolini captures the atmosphere of the classroom and invites viewers to consider the emotional complexities and relationships that unfold within educational spaces.
The exhibition also features an interactive classroom installation where visitors can leave their mark on school-style desks, adding their own experiences and perspectives to the exhibition.

Art + Rebellion: Discussions with ACC Peace & Conflict Studies

- Location: Highland Campus, Gallery 2000, Room 2.2450
- What: TAG and the ACC Center for Peace & Conflict Studies will host a Restorative Listening Circle focused on shared experiences of personal and adolescent rebellion. No RSVP is required.
Art + Expression: Readings from Creative Writing & Art History Students
- Date: Wednesday, October 28
- Time: 4:30 p.m.
- Location: Highland Campus, Gallery 2000, Room 2.2450
- What: ACC Art History and Creative Writing students will share written works (poetry, fiction) in response to the exhibition, offering another perspective on Barolini’s work through student voices and creative expression.
