HR Connection: SECC campaign, flu shots, retirement planning presentations, and more

SECC – Together We Change Lives

The annual State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) has begun and runs through October 31st. Hundreds of you donate every year to help those in need of a helping hand. We invite everyone to give what they can to help those in our community with financial, personal and physical challenges. Last year we raised over $61,000 and we aim to exceed that amount in 2017.

Giving is easy:

  1. Learn about the charities in the online SECC giving guide and choose the ones you want to help.
  2. Make a donation. Online for payroll deduction or use this pledge form for one time donation.
  3. Feel great about helping those in need.

More information, instructions, and a list of campus SECC coordinators can be found here. Be on the lookout for fun SECC activities coming your way at your location. Together We Change Lives.

National Retirement Security Week Presentations

ACC employees are invited to attend three informational sessions on retirement planning in mid-October. In addition, employees will be able to meet with the financial advisor individually. Check out the topics and locations and watch for additional information coming soon.

Roth 403(b) Accounts are now available

A new retirement savings tool has been added to the ACC 403(b) voluntary savings accounts.  Roth 403(b) accounts allow employees to save after-tax money now and not pay taxes on their future distributions from the account.  No further taxes are owned on either contributions or earnings when it is taken out of the account after 5 years and upon reaching age 59½.

Currently, six of the eight authorized 403(b) plan vendors, are able to accept employees’ Roth contributions. They are: Fidelity, Lincoln Financial, Security Benefit, TIAA, VALIC and Voya.  USAA and AmeriPrise do not accept Roth contributions at this time.

To enroll in a Roth 403(b) account, first contact one of the six vendors who can accept your Roth contributions to set up an account.  Contact information for the vendors is located on the ACC HR Benefits website. Then, log in to the Retirement Manager website, select “Start or Change my Contributions” and follow the prompts to set up your monthly contributions.  Finally, check your pay retainer the following month to be sure your contributions have started.

If you have any questions about the Roth accounts contact HR Benefits at [email protected] or call either Geri Edens at 512-223-7230 or Steve Hassel at 512-223-7617.

Aflac plans now available

ACC will again offer Aflac supplemental insurance plans to eligible employees. Aflac plans fill in the gaps of major medical coverage and pay directly to you above and beyond your regular medical insurance.  Eligible employees (staffing table and adjunct faculty) will be able to enroll during our Fall Enrollment period from October 9 through November 10, 2017.

Enrollment sessions will be held at ACC campuses and coverage will become effective December 1. Aflac will offer the following coverages which provide daily, weekly and/or lump sum benefits:

  • Cancer Care
  • Hospital Care
  • Critical Illness Care
  • Accident Care

We encourage you to attend an information session to better understand how the AFLAC plans can help protect you and your family when a medical event occurs.  AFLAC associates will be on site to assist you with your elections. Please see the schedule to learn when AFLAC will be at your campus.

Questions about AFLAC: www.everwellbenefits.com (register with LW841) or email [email protected] or call Carter at 512.577.5722.  Please contact HR Benefits for any questions related to the presentations at 512.223.7800 or by email at [email protected].
