Round Rock Campus Applied Technology Expansion Progresses Toward Completion

Austin Community College District (ACC) continues to make progress on the Applied Technology Expansion at the Round Rock Campus, with construction advancing across both new facilities and substantial completion still targeted for the end of May.

Automotive Technology Building

The Automotive Technology Building is now approximately 70% complete. The construction of the exterior walls, including masonry, metal wall panels, and metal soffits and fascia panels, is installed. The installation of metal roofing is in process.

Inside the building, overhead mechanical and electrical conduits, piping, and ductwork are being installed in all areas.  All interior walls have been framed, taped, floated, and primed, ready for paint.

Mechanical equipment has been set on housekeeping pads in the mechanical room, and equipment is being tied to piping that runs throughout the building. In the electrical room, wiring is also being fed through all panels. The next big hurdle is installing the large coiling overhead doors that serve the automotive lift bays.

The second facility is approximately 90% complete and fully enclosed. Interior finish work is ready to move forward once permanent power is established. The project team continues to coordinate with the local power provider to complete this step. Once the power is on, teams will start up mechanical and electrical equipment, which will allow for testing and commissioning.

Site work across the project has been impacted by several weeks of rain, limiting progress on paving, sidewalks, and landscaping. The team anticipates improved momentum with drier conditions in the coming weeks.

Looking ahead, ACC is preparing for a busy summer of move-in and setup activities. This includes installing furniture and equipment, relocating existing automotive program resources into the new spaces, and completing technology and audiovisual installations.

The College expects both buildings to be open this fall.
