Hays Campus Expansion Project Moves Closer to Construction

Austin Community College District (ACC) continues to make progress on the Hays Campus healthcare programs expansion. The architect design team recently extended the overall design schedule to fully integrate cost-saving measures without compromising the facility’s quality or long-term functionality.

The final drawings are expected by the end of August. Once complete, the general contractor will begin the first round of subcontractor bid solicitations.

Collaborative Planning Continues

The project team continues to meet with individual College departments to refine space allocations and confirm equipment requirements. These collaborative planning sessions make sure instructional, laboratory, and support spaces meet the needs of future students, faculty, and staff.

Commitment to Sustainable Design

Sustainability remains a central focus throughout the project. Work continues to advance key LEED green building initiatives that support energy efficiency, responsible resource use, and long-term environmental performance. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the rating system used by the U.S. Green Building Council to measure a building’s sustainability and resource-efficiency.

Looking Ahead

The Hays Campus expansion remains on schedule to open for the fall 2028 semester. Funded through the 2022 General Obligation Bond, the project will expand capacity for high-demand healthcare programs and help meet the growing educational and workforce needs of the Hays County region.

A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for September 2026.
