April 17: Public Art Initiatives: Perspectives from Two Cities–Austin and Saltillo

ACC Community and Public Affairs, The Art Galleries at Austin Community College, the Latin American Cultural Center, and the Arts & Digital Media Division are hosting a hybrid event in which three artists will talk about their recent public artwork on April 17 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm in HLC 2.1550 on ACC Highland Campus.

About J Muzacz:
J Muzacz is a public artist, community organizer, and educator with nearly two decades of experience creating landmark artworks. His innovative mosaics blend contemporary technology with the ancient process of mosaic-making. His artistic career has evolved naturally from traveling the world, collaboration with diverse communities, and a social practice involving education, having studied Sociology and been a teacher for over a decade. In 2018, Muzacz co-founded The Mosaic Workshop, where people of all ages and abilities can learn the art of mosaic making through hands-on workshops and ambitious community-led mosaic murals.
J Muzacz, ubicado en Austin, Texas, es un artista público, organizador comunitario y educador con casi dos décadas de experiencia en la creación de obras de arte emblemáticas. Sus innovadores mosaicos combinan la tecnología contemporánea con el antiguo proceso de fabricación de mosaicos. Su carrera artística ha evolucionado de manera natural gracias a viajar por el mundo, colaborar con diversas comunidades y una práctica social que involucra la educación, haber estudiado Sociología y sido profesor durante más de una década. En 2018, Muzacz cofundó El Taller de Mosaico, donde personas de todas las edades y habilidades pueden aprender el arte de hacer mosaicos a través de talleres prácticos y ambiciosos mosaicos liderados por la comunidad.
Julio Ávalos, also known as Chous, and Ana Flores Lavin are graphic artists and designers who specialize in large-scale murals and public art as well as traditional and digital illustration. Based in Saltillo, Coahuila, they have worked on major projects and explored their passion for the arts in Mexico and around the world. A main focus of their work is to engage in the recovery of public spaces and crime prevention through art and cultural management. In addition to their urban art projects, they have worked on branding for companies and produced creative output for various cultural festivals.

Julio Ávalos, también conocido como Chous, y Ana Flores Lavín son artistas gráficos y diseñadores especializados en murales a gran escala y arte público, así como en ilustración tradicional y digital. Con sede en Saltillo, Coahuila, han trabajado en proyectos importantes y han explorado su pasión por las artes en México y en todo el mundo. Un enfoque principal de su trabajo es involucrarse en la recuperación de espacios públicos y la prevención del delito a través del arte y la gestión cultural. Además de sus proyectos de arte urbano, han trabajado en la creación de marcas para empresas y han producido contenido creativo para diversos festivales culturales.
