ACC Values:  Joy

Under the leadership of our new Chancellor, ACC’s students participated in guided discussions about the sort of college that they need us to be.  As you know, their discussions led to four values that are now guiding (and will continue to guide) our work:  Courage, Compassion, Joy, and Yes.  This is the third in a series of blog posts about these values and what they mean to the members of the instructional leadership team.

As a college, we have this statement of Joy:  “It is our honor to work for our students and with each other.”  As an instructional leadership team, we think joy is evident in these behaviors:

  1. We will show public support for other team members.
  2. We will practice gratitude by acknowledging and appreciating the efforts of others.
  3. We will have fun.*
  4. We will see the good in others.
  5. We will smile often, be grateful, and demonstrate appreciation of and for others.
  6. We will cheerfully acknowledge team members’ accomplishments and daily contributions.
  7. We will lead with joy for the work AND joy for the accomplishments of others.

*Under the heading of fun, we have enjoyed dinner together at Eatery 73, simultaneously enjoying supporting the students in ACC’s Culinary program.  We have welcomed new leaders with happy hours at Easy Tiger or Brewtorium.  We will be volunteering at the Farm at the Elgin Campus on a Friday morning in December (come join us and dig in the dirt!).  We laugh, we tease each other, we attend conferences together, and we appreciate each others’ foibles as well as each others’ strengths.  In other words, we find joy in our work and in our collaborative leadership team.
