ACC Values:  Yes

Under the leadership of our new Chancellor, ACC’s students participated in guided discussions about the sort of college that they need us to be.  Their discussions led to four values that are now guiding (and will continue to guide) our work:  Courage, Compassion, Joy, and Yes.  This is the fourth and last in a series of blog posts about these values and what they mean to the members of the instructional leadership team.

As a  college, we have this statement of Yes to guide us:  “We believe in being tenacious and resilient in fighting for our students.”  Together as the instructional leadership team, we believe that the value of Yes will be seen in the following behaviors:

  1. We will assume positive intent.
  2. We will be responsible for finding a “yes” wherever we can.
  3. We will practice active, thoughtful perspective-taking.
  4. We won’t indulge in knee-jerk reactions.  Instead we will be thoughtful and reasoned in our decision-making.
  5. We will model the behavior we want to see in others.
  6. We will communicate directly – with a spirit of ”yes” – to strengthen collaborative relationships.

As instructional leaders, and on behalf of the instructional AVCs, the Managing Director, and myself, we ask that you hold us accountable for our commitment to “yes”.
