Celebrating progress: RRC topping out celebration marks construction milestone

ACC and its construction partners celebrated progress at Round Rock Campus Phase 2 with a topping out celebration Friday, September 15, 2017.

Construction crews, crafts workers, architects, engineers, and others on the project team gathered to sign a steel beam that will be placed in a stairwell of the new building.

“We are celebrating teamwork today,” says Tyler Carpenter, Senior Project Manager at SpawGlass.

“It takes great collaboration to bring projects like this expansion forward,” says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC president/CEO. “There is no more critical time for us to invest in our workforce, and Phase 2 will do that.”

Phase 2 will add a 45,000 square-foot general education building and renovate existing facilities to support a number of programs, particularly those for high-demand healthcare careers such as nursing, sonography, and surgical technology. Campus capacity will increase from 5,000 to 6,000 students.

The new building will also include a second ACCelerator. The innovative computer lab will feature more than 140 computer stations for individualized learning.

“The facilities are great, especially having the opportunity to study here and not drive all the way into Austin. This campus is accessible and provides a great learning experience,” says Luis Quijano, student.

Luis Quijano, Round Rock native, is a sophomore at ACC’s Round Rock campus studying Pre-Med. He also serves as secretary for student government.

“Fellow students tell me they feel the new building is a welcome change. They are really happy it is coming up, and even if they are unable to experience it, they are happy that others will,” Quijano concludes.

Phase 2 is expected to open in 2018.
