Story and Photos by Daniel Lopez
Alternative Latin Night, held March 8 at Auditorium Shores, provided free entertainment during South by Southwest. The concert hosted by NPR Music, was one of several free events held for the public.
The musical lineup included Italian rapper Jovanotti and an ensemble of Uruguayan and Argentine musicians called Bajofondo, who play modernized versions of milonga and tango. Subversive México-City-band Molotov and closing act Café Tacvba, rounded out the evening.
The classic Latin aromas of tacos, fajitas, crepes and even Chinese food permeated the park while beer, margarita and souvenir vendors added to the festive ambiance.
The family friendly event went smoothly. The only nuisance was the long setup time between each band.
