Semester Recap from Audio Technology and Industry

As the semester comes to a close, Audio Technology and Industry expresses gratitude for another successful and memorable year filled with real-world work experiences, performance opportunities, and special events across all of our disciplines.

In this years’ Foley Workshop both Audio Technology and Industry and Radio, Television film students worked with Susan Fitz-Simon creating and recording a variety of sound effects for video. Some of her most successful projects have been Southland Tales, Boyhood Before Midnight and Halfway to Armarillo. During the workshop students learned about mic choice and placement, the importance of minor details such as capturing the sound of clothing, and the etiquette of communication in a charged work environment.
Our Survey of The Music Business students had the opportunity to tour the Moody Center. During our tour, they learned about how everyone works together to run a successful venue and the partnership between UT and the Moody Center.

As a follow-up to our tour, we hosted a Moody Center panel night, where we were able to meet employees in booking, marketing and branding. This gave us a unique perspective of venue planning. We were grateful to network with them and get some valuable advice.

Our Austin Ableton User Group held two workshops for our students and the public to attend. One of the workshops focused on Link Jam as well as Sound Character development. We are looking forward to continuing these workshops in the future.

Last, but most definitely not least- we had another successful semester of Flex Factory events! The Flex Factory gives Arts and Digital Media students the opportunity to perform in a fun environment with the support of their peers, live sound students an opportunity to practice their craft in a real-world performance scenario, and RTF students an opportunity to record the performance. If you all are interested in performing in the future, keep your eyes open for the spring semester application!

Hope you all have a restful winter break.

All the best,
Audio Technology and Industry
