The Alliance of Student Future Makers is composed of student leaders at Austin Community College District (ACC). Members will meet once in the spring and fall semesters to collaborate on the future of education at ACC. Discussions will support sustainable growth, student opportunity, and upward economic mobility of all citizens.
By participating, you will:
- Gain a toolkit for thinking about the future with confidence — not fear.
- Build skills employers value (critical thinking, systems thinking, collaboration, foresight).
- See trends before others do and learn how to turn signals into insight.
- Practice scenario planning, a method used by leading companies, governments, and nonprofits.
- Strengthen your voice in conversations about the future of education, work, and community.
- Leave with artifacts (notes, frameworks, scenarios) you can reference in classes, portfolios, or interviews.
What to Expect
The Alliance of Student Future Makers invites students to step into the role of explorers, analysts, and designers of what comes next. Students build futures thinking and strategic foresight skills that help them make sense of rapid change — and imagine how education, training, and workforce systems could evolve
Together, we will:
- Establish a Shared Language: Create a common framework for talking about uncertainty, disruption, and opportunity.
- Practice Horizon Scanning: Identify emerging trends and weak signals — and explore how they may impact institutions, communities, and career pathways.
- Develop Plausible Scenarios: Work in teams to construct 2–3 realistic scenarios about the future of learning and work, and consider the choices leaders and students may face.
