WET LAB STARTUP BUSINESS INCUBATOR
Spring Highlights: A Season of Growth and Innovation

Welcome to our Quarterly Newsletter!
We are thrilled to share the latest updates and achievements from the ACC Bioscience Incubator, a unique entity that serves as a bridge connecting students and faculty at Austin Community College with the local life science industry, entrepreneurs, and the myriad of individuals who support them. For the past eight years, our incubator has been a cornerstone of innovation and collaboration, and it’s your engagement and feedback that have driven our success.
In this newsletter, you will hear from various stakeholders and supporters who have experienced firsthand the impact of our work. Their insights and stories remind us of our mission and help us stay focused on what truly matters, while also keeping our ears and eyes open to new opportunities that arise.
These opportunities often come to light through our community outreach efforts. Whether we are engaging with people outside our walls or welcoming visitors into our space, we continuously gather valuable feedback and fresh perspectives. This interaction not only strengthens our ecosystem but also fuels our passion for showcasing what makes our incubator special.
We take great pride in the role we play in building and nurturing this vibrant bioscience community. Thank you for being a part of our journey.
Warm regards,
Nancy Lyon, Director
HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR RECENT EVENTS
SXSW PARTY
One of the goals of the ACC Bioscience Incubator is cultivating a robust life science ecosystem in Central Texas. We do that by building partnerships and relationships with our peers and mentors in the community. Each year, we gather those people to come together to celebrate the growth of the local industry, welcome new members, and show off what Austin has to offer to those visiting for SXSW. This year, we partnered with Opportunity Austin and Texas State STAR Park to welcome over 100 of our closest friends and soon-to-be closest friends to the beautiful Austin Public Library for an evening of camaraderie and good food.

Visitors We get to show this place off to a lot of people. Some of the groups that have been through recently include leadership from Opportunity Austin, the Austin Technology Council, the Texas Health and Bioscience Institute (THBI), and the Sickle Cell Foundation. In addition, we hosted some grad students from UT Austin, the Director of National Intelligence, a group of professionals in Student Services at Community Colleges across the country, and an international delegation of science entrepreneurs hosted by Texas Global.

MEMBER COMPANY NEWS

Member company, Renue by Science, hosted a 4 day assay development workshop for ACC students. As the skills involved in developing an assay are those that they learn in their coursework, the goal was to see how those techniques are used in industry. They extracted the active ingredients from the things we hear in the media are good for us, such as turmeric, cinnamon, blueberries and ginger and analyzed the extracted products for their bioactive potential using various assays to determine composition, antioxidant capacity, and antimicrobial properties. Everyone raved about the workshop (including the teacher)!

At ABI, we are always trying to help students find a job that fits with their interests and interests. Upon completion of the assay development workshop, one of the participants really shined and now works for Renue by Science helping to develop assays for the company. Welcome Olivia |
