New Orleans, LA – In a thrilling showdown at the Caesars Superdome, the Sam Houston Bearkats made history with their first FBS bowl victory by defeating the Georgia Southern Eagles 31-26 in the 2024 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Central to this historic win were quarterback Hunter Watson and defensive back Jaylon Jimmerson, who delivered standout performances that propelled the Bearkats to victory.
Hunter Watson: Offensive Catalyst
Watson orchestrated a balanced offensive attack, completing 20 of 28 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns. His ability to manage the game and make critical throws kept the Georgia Southern defense off balance. Watson’s composure under pressure was evident as he led the Bearkats on several key drives, including a pivotal fourth-quarter possession that extended their lead.
Jaylon Jimmerson: Defensive MVP
Jimmerson’s impact on the defensive side was profound, earning him the title of Most Valuable Player for the game. His versatility was on display as he contributed significantly in pass coverage and run support. Jimmerson’s timely pass breakups and sure tackling were instrumental in stifling the Eagles’ offensive momentum, particularly in crucial moments of the game.

Leading the charge, Austinite Isaiah Cash tallied 10 tackles, ranking second on the team, demonstrating his keen instincts and quick reactions. On offense, running back John Gentry provided balance with 75 rushing yards, complementing Watson’s passing attack.
