This week marked an important step forward in the web redesign project as we prepared to transition from analysis to clearer direction, shared understanding, and upcoming decision-making. Much of the work focused on aligning expectations, preparing governance groups, and getting ready for a key presentation from our consulting partner, iFactory.
Establishing a Clear “North Star”
In mid-January, iFactory will present the findings from their website audit along with a Strategy Report that will serve as the project’s guiding “North Star.”
This Strategy Report brings together:
- What iFactory learned through its audit and discovery work
- The goals that should guide the future of the College’s web presence
- A recommended approach for how the project should move forward
A central theme of this work is helping the College clearly distinguish what content belongs on the public website versus what may be better served through an intranet, portal, or other internal platforms. This clarity is especially important for divisions that rely on the website to support both public-facing communication and internal operations.
iFactory’s upcoming presentation will help establish a shared understanding of these boundaries and set the stage for more detailed conversations in the weeks ahead.
Preparing Our Governance Groups
In parallel, the project team has been preparing the Web Working Group and the Web Advisory Committee (WAC) to actively engage with the interim web policy.
These discussions are designed to ensure that faculty, staff, and division leaders understand:
- Why updates to web governance are necessary
- What changes and challenges may be ahead
- How advisory and governance groups will play a role in shaping decisions
Early and informed engagement from these groups is essential to building a sustainable, well-governed web ecosystem that supports the College’s long-term needs.
What We Worked on This Week
Over the past week, the project team focused on coordination, planning, and readiness across several key areas:
- Aligned with iFactory on the structure and content of their upcoming audit findings presentation and Strategy Report, confirming its role as the project’s guiding framework.
- Planned the January 24 Web Working Group meeting, with a focus on advisory roles, discussion of the interim web policy, and an early preview of iFactory’s audit findings.
- Confirmed expectations for the January 27 Web Advisory Committee meeting, including a 30-minute presentation by iFactory followed by discussion and next-steps planning.
- Began framing key conversations around web governance, intranet strategy, and portal direction, including early considerations for content types and internal access needs.
- Coordinated forward-looking schedules with iFactory, aligning on deliverables, sequencing, and preparation for upcoming strategy, process review, and content inventory phases.
What’s Coming Next
Next week will be a milestone moment as the project begins translating research and analysis into clearer direction and shared priorities.
- iFactory’s audit and Strategy Report presentation to the WAC, who will review recommended goals, findings, and the proposed approach for the next phase of work.
- Discussions on what content should remain on the public website versus move to an intranet or other platforms, with attention to impacts on College divisions.
- Final reviews and discussions of the interim web policy by both the Web Working Group and Web Advisory Committee.
- Upcoming iFactory meetings include the Process Review Meeting and the Content Inventory Meeting.
- Discussion on the feasibility of MyACC and how it fits into broader conversations about portal and intranet strategy.
Looking Ahead
As the project moves forward, the focus will shift from discovery to alignment and action. The upcoming iFactory presentations will help establish shared direction, clarify roles, and prepare the College for the next phases of strategy, process review, and content work.
