Highland Phase 2 recent activity

ACC staff continues to lay the foundation for construction on the 2014 bond projects, including phase 2 renovations for the Highland Campus.

As project teams are confirmed, each project will be thoroughly evaluated to finalize plans, timelines, budget, and program space.

Space programming

Facilities and Construction team members met with administrators in mid-June to discuss options for narrowing down space requests. The team also is considering modifying the scope of work in phase 2 to accommodate renovations at Rio Grande Campus. Teams met on June 16, 18, and 25 to further address instructional program and space requirements.

Roof testing

Crews tested the roof deck in the east wing of the building. The deck in phase 1 renovations was more corroded than expected; the metal deck covering the east wing seems to be in good condition at the test locations.

Construction team

An evaluation committee has reviewed initial proposals from construction manager at-risk candidates. Finalists are scheduled to present to ACC’s Board of Trustees in August. Project architect Barnes Gromatsky Kosarek met with TEG (The Entermedia Group) consultants regarding small/local business enterprise program compliance.

New ACCPD offices

Construction is imminent for a new office suite for ACC District Police in the new portion of the building. Work is expected to wrap up in August.

Biotech wet lab

The design for the college’s biotechnology incubator will be complete by fall 2016.

General maintenance/site prep

Crews are performing needed site and utilities maintenance to support the abatement process. The college is seeking a proposal for a contract to remove storefront glass.
