Fall 2023 Special Admission Policy

● Drew ● January 19, 2023 ● Surgical Technology ● Comments Off on Fall 2023 Special Admission Policy

Austin Community College’s Surgical Technology Program has opened Fall 2023 admissions to include students who are currently in the process of completing prerequisite courses.

Qualified applicants are students who have either completed the following prerequisite courses or who will complete them in the Spring and/or Summer 2023 semester(s):

  • BIOL 2401 Anatomy & Physiology I (or Human Anatomy)
  • 3-credit hour College Level Math Course (MATH 1333 not accepted)
  • HPRS 1106 or HPRS 1206 Medical Terminology
  • BIOL 2402 Anatomy & Physiology II (or Human Physiology)
  • BIOL 2420 Microbiology
  • HPRS 2300 Pharmacology

All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better and meet the 2.7 minimum prerequisite GPA to qualify. Please note that a “P” grade will not be calculated in determining the GPA.

In addition to completing prerequisites, applicants must upload necessary documents to an online CastleBranch account. Required documents include proof of immunizations and the verification page indicating completion of a mandatory online information session for surgical technology students.

Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply now. Applications will be reviewed and, if approved, acceptance will be “provisional” and on the condition they successfully complete (grade “C” or better, 2.7 minimum GPA) the 6 prerequisite courses by the end of the Summer 2023 semester. Failure to do so will result in the application being denied or withdrawal from the program.

The conditional admission applies to the Fall 2023 semester only and applies to the first students meeting the requirements since the program is filled on a first come first served basis.

The program offers an Associate of Applied Science degree.* The program courses are completed in 3 semesters. More information can be found on the Surgical Technology website.

*Please note:  ARC/STSA Board of Directors have mandated language related to Standard I. A. Sponsorship of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Education Programs in Surgical Technology as follows:

All graduates must complete the program with a minimum of an Associate Degree on or after August 1, 2021.

This applies to all students entering the Surgical Technology program with a Fall 2020 start date and thereafter.

Surgical Technologists are in high demand and now is a great time to launch a career in this field.
